Frequently Asked Questions
Peer Support
What does a Peer Support Worker do?
Peer Support Workers (PSWs) are trained volunteers who facilitate our sessions. Our PSWs undergo background checks and in-house training before facilitating sessions.
Their responsibilities include:
Starting the session by welcoming everyone and opening up the conversation.
Making sure everyone follows the group rules.
Contacting the appropriate authorities when they have safeguarding concerns.
Making sure the group remains a safe space.
What happens in a text-based peer support session?
The session is opened by the Peer Support Worker who will welcome everyone and state the conversation topic. The session topics are pre-determined by the charity, so that you know what to expect, and will cover common challenges related to AuDHD
How long do Peer Support Groups last?
If accepted onto our Peer Support Groups, you will be enrolled onto a 14 week course. Each session will have the same participants every week, so you don’t have to worry about meeting new people every time
Do I have to talk in the sessions?
No, you don’t have to talk or send any messages if you don’t want to, or even attend the session every week, but we hope that it becomes a space you feel safe enough to share and contribute to discussions.
Therapy
Do I have to pay for therapy?
Yes. Unfortunately we are not in a position to be able to offer funding for therapy. However, many of the therapists in this directory provide a discounted rate for those on low income - this information may be found through the links in their bios, or you can send them a message asking if this is something they offer.
Will my therapist be AuDHD?
We will not disclose the therapists’ personal or medical information, but please be assured that all therapists in this directory are neuro-affirming, and many do have lived experience of AuDHD.
I want to change therapist. What do I do?
It’s okay if you want to change therapist; sometimes it takes a while to find the right one. Just let your therapist know how you’re feeling and that you would like to stop sessions with them.
I’m a therapist or specialist. How can I be added to your directory?
Thank you for joining us on our mission. If you're interested in being included in our directory, please fill out this form to start the application process. Please make sure you include your phone number and any websites or directory profiles you have.
Please note, we do not affiliate with any service provider which incorporates Applied Behavioural Analysis as a therapeutic approach. Any requests from service providers who practice ABA techniques will be declined.
I’m an ADHD/neurodiversity coach. Can I be included in the directory?
Unfortunately not. Our Therapist Directory is specifically for those who provide clinical services, such as counsellors and psychotherapists. To ensure the focus of our directory remains the same, we are not including coaches at this time.
